2010 Herb Happening
Herb Association of South Africa - 2010 Herb Happening
Friday 16 April - Sunday 18 April
Doonholm Herb Farm, Midrand
Herbs for Your Lifestyle
Exquisite herb gardens, displays, talks, herbs and herb products form part of The Herb Association of South Africa's fourth Herb Happening in April.
The theme is 'Herbs for Your Lifestyle' and the aim is to show how herbs can be used as part of our everyday lives - for health, beauty, nutrition, flavour, fragrance and more.
The main attractions are:
- The magnificent Spiral garden that can be walked as a labyrinth, an African medicinal herb garden, the patio herb garden, the Monastic garden and the Lavender lane, featuring 15 different types of lavender.
- A series of new Kitchen Gardens that group herbs according to specific flavours; spicy, savory, lemon/citrus and liquorice and anise.
- A new concept in vegetable gardening, the 'Square Foot Garden'. Only a "square foot" per vegetable is planted and this is the perfect family project, especially for children.
- Talks by renowned veggie grower, Jane Griffiths of Jane's Delicious Garden, organic herb grower Margie Frayne, and the editors of top gardening magazines on growing herbs and vegetables.
- For the first time there will be a Green Pavilion for producers of natural and organic products for the home garden such as Worm Buddies and Talborne Organics. Food and Trees for Africa will share their expertise on sustainable food gardening.
- Herbal products, such as essential oils, creams, soaps, preserves, healing preparations, herb seeds, books, and crafts will be sold in the Herbal Products Pavilion.
- A huge variety of herb plants, including specialist herbs, will be on sale from different growers.
- A Children's Care Corner offers activities for the children including pony rides and a workshop on paper making with lavender.
- The outdoor French Cafe will provide tea, refreshments and light meals.
Entrance fee: R40 for adults, R30 for pensioners, R10 for children under 12.
