This conifer has twisting, rope-like branches with stiff leaves and large cones
that, when ripe, burst open. The Chile pine is not everybody’s cup of tea, for it looks untidy at the best of times. The leaves are needle-like.
Araucaria heterophylla (Norfolk Island pine, 30 - 50m) is attractive and symmetrical with horizontal branches spiralling up the trunk.
