Capsicum annuum ‘grossum’ Peppers

Planting position: Full sun. Ideal for regions with warm, frost-free seasons Spacing of 50 cm between plants.
Requires regular watering or drenching (less during germination period). Well-draining, compost-enriched loamy soil and generous layers of mulching (avoid the stem). Added 2:3:4 to preparing beds, of 100g.m ² and 3:1:5 per plant while flowering and fruiting. Scatter snail- and slug bait around seedlings, stake for support and provide wind-protection.
Propagate from seed sown in situ.
Harvesting is done when the peppers are of good size by cutting them off with sharp secateurs.
Pests, diseases and their cures: Fruit fly and Aphids - spray with demeton-S-methyl and wait two weeks before Harvesting. Green vegetable bug and Leaf-eating caterpillars - spray with mercaptothion.

Peppers of larger varieties are mostly red, yellow or green and are eaten raw in salads or cooked in many dishes. Smaller peppers are hotly flavoured, such as the chilli pepper and are usually dried before being used.
