Requires regular and thorough watering. Loamy composted soil. Complete fertiliser in spring. Initial pruning for trunk-shaping only.
Propagate through budding in summer.

The crab-apple has attractive foliage in shades of purple and it’s flowers are reddish, followed in summer by yellow fruit.
Malus floribunda (Japanese wood apple, 4m) is compact and flowers for a month from spring, bearing masses of soft pink flowers and yellow or red apple-like fruit in summer.
Malus x floribunda ‘atropurpurea’ bears small red flowers profusely, followed by dark blue berries.
Malus micromalus (Pink crab-apple, 6m) bears masses of beautiful pink spring flowers and produces red fruit in summer.
