Nigella damascena Love-in-a-mist

N. Africa, Spain; 40 - 50cm
Planting position: Full sun.
For wind-protected, non-humidity areas.
Suitable for most growing regions, provided adequate watering.
Requires regular watering.
Compost- and lime induced soil.
Application of liquid fertiliser with appearance of first buds.
Watch out for snails and fungal diseases.
Propagate from spring-sown (in situ) seed.

During summer, this annual bears soft, faded blue flowers amongst its fine foliage. These blooms are ideal for cutting, and are followed by pretty seedpods.
N. hispanica (35cm) is known as the Fennel flower, with rich blue flowers, each with prominent red stamens.
