Paeonia Peony

Planting position: Semi-shade. Regions with cool, moist conditions. Planting spot with wind-protection. Not suited to areas with hot, humid conditions.
Requires regular watering, keeping the soil constantly moist. Deep, fertile soil, enriched with plenty peat, leaf mould and well-decayed manure.

Spring application of complete fertiliser. Spring applications of generous mulching. Watch out for snails, aphids, slugs and leaf spot.
Propagate from cuttings or division.

Spring- and summer flowering with single- or double blooms with clumped foliage. They die off in autumn.
P. lactiflora (1m) has soft, poppy-like flowers in purple to red, pink and white colouring. The blooms are double, semi-double or single and the foliage dark green.
P. officinalis (65cm) with single flowers in colours or white and red with golden centres. Its double flowers are available in crimson, shades of pink, red and white.
P. suffruticosa (1,5m) bears large, spring flowers of plum-shaded, white colouring.
