Planting and growing requirements: good shade and good drainage is vital. Watering sparingly and avoid splashing the foliage.

An evergreen species with its fleshy leaves veined and stained with a lighter green. Its spring flowers are slightly circular with maroon spotting the off-white colouring.
P. callosum needs only 13°C and its blooms are most interestingly coloured in green, purple and white.
P. delenatii wants to grow in temperatures between 14 - 17°C and has summer flowers of pastel pink with a darker lip.
P. fairieanum needs only 10°C and is winter flowering. These blooms have a greenish-purple pouch and the rest is white with purple.
P. hirsutissimum wants to grow in temperatures between 11 - 13°C, is evergreen and produces flowers during spring. These vary in shades of purple, the lightest and brightest tones towards the tips, bleeding into almost black towards the centre. Its petals are covered with black hairs.
P. Honey Gorse 'Sunshine' wants similar conditions to P. callosum, is winter flowering and evergreen. These blooms are beautifully shaded in yellow and yellowish-green.
P. insigne is happy with 10°C and produces winter flowers which are long-lasting. These blooms have tan-brown petals and pouch and the uppermost sepal a green with a white tip spotted with brown.
P. Maudiae needs 13°C and can flower during any season. Its foliage is mottled and the large flowers, which appear singly, are bright green and white.
P. Miller's Daughter 'Snow Maiden' also needs 13°C, flowers in winter and is evergreen. This outstanding plant produces large white flowers, which are speckled with a brownish-pink. It grows easily.
P. parishii needs the same conditions as the 'Snow Maiden' but has colour combinations of purplish-brown, sluggish-green, and yellowish-green on the winter flowers. Spots appear towards the centre.
P. Royale 'Downland' is evergreen and winter-flowering. Its flower spikes carry reddish-pink flowers, shaded with a greenish tint.
P. venustum has spring flowers, borne on tall spikes. These blooms have hairy petals and a dorsal sepal of pure white, striped in green. Its lip and petals are a warm green, shaded with a reddish colour.
