Requires moderate watering during growing period, but less during winter. Potting mixtures peat-based. High-light-intensity. Provide humid conditions. Applications of fertiliser, fortnightly, from late spring to late summer.
Propagate from spring tip cuttings and side shoots.

The upright stems droop with age and its dark green, shiny foliage is oval and pointed. The leaves are banded broadly with silver on the central vein and margins.
P. pubescens (Friendship plant) has roundish, dark green leaves with a tinge of bronze.
P. mollis has yellowish-green foliage with fine bronze veining and large clusters of pink blooms.
