Requires watering, regular and thorough, especially during dry spells. Well-draining, sandy soil. Spring applications of complete fertiliser. Shape pruning after flowering, leaving old wood untouched. Watching out for root rot.
Propagate from autumn cuttings.

This indigenous, evergreen shrub has a purple shade with its purple tinged young leaves and striking pinkish-purple pea-shaped summer flowers.
