Raphanus sativus Radishes

Planting position: Full sun. Spacing of 5cm between plants and 15cm between rows.
Requires regular watering (less during germination period). Well-draining, compost-enriched loamy soil and layers of grass clippings mulching. Added 2:3:2 to preparing beds, at a rate of 65g.m ².
Propagate from fungicide dusted seed sown in situ (also see Carrots).
Harvesting is done as soon as they are well sized.
Pests, diseases and their cures: Downy mildew - spray the leaves with mancozeb. Aphids and Caterpillars - spray with mercaptothion.

The edible, fleshy root of the Radish is strongly flavoured and is eaten raw or in other forms for different varieties. The Radish is easy-to-grow.
