Planting position: Full sun. Ideal for hot, humid regions. Wind-protected planting spot.
Requires regular and thorough watering, keeping the soil constantly moist. Compost-enriched, fertile soil. Application of complete fertiliser during flowering period.
Propagate from autumn division.

From the rootstock brown, pineapple-like cones are produced, hence the name. The flowers are red and yellow, and spiralling up the bamboo-like stems are leathery green leaves.
