Planting and growing requirements: good warmth.
Ideal temperature: 12 - 13°C
An autumn and winter flowerer that has thin long leathery leaves and between 5 - 20 flowers per stalk. These range in shape, size and colour but usually they are a faded blue with the lip a darker purplish-blue. These are covered with different markings from plant to plant.

V. cristata produces striking yellow flowers during spring and summer. These are striped and spotted with brilliant red. It loves ample light.
V. Jennie Hashimoto 'Starles' needs 18°C, is evergreen and summer-flowering. Its blooms, sometimes as many as 200 on mature plants, are coloured in pinks and oranges.
V. Nelly Morley flowers freely during any season and the blooms are soft pink with brownish-purple markings.
V. Onomea 'Walcrest' produces blooms in abundance during summer. These flowers are large and reddish-purple with a brownish shade.
V. Rothschildiana bears the most striking blue flowers during winter. These violet-blue flowers are flat and are borne 6 - 10 on a spike of which there may be 4 at a time! The plant is a strong grower that loves sunny, warm and humid conditions.
V. suavis starts flowering in autumn through to winter with scented creamy flowers, marked with red in the form of spots or stripes.
V. Thonglor is evergreen and flowers during varied seasons, but often summer. It produces pink flowers where the sepals and lower petals are marked with reddish-pink.
