Planting position: Semi-shade.
Suitable for cool growing regions with high summer rainfall.
Not suitable for areas hot and humid or dry.
Requires regular and thorough watering, keeping the soil constantly moist.

Seasonal mulch, for keeping its root run cool and moist.
Early spring application of complete fertiliser.
Watch out for snails, aphids and slugs.
Propagate from early summer-sown seed, or root cuttings.
Flower spikes emerge from greyish leaf rosettes during spring and summer.
The blooms are available in shades of purple, lavender and pink.
V. nigrum (1 - 1,5m) has tall spikes of yellow flowers with purple hairs.
