Russia; 40 - 50cm
Planting position: Full sun. Suitable for growing regions with high summer rainfall, without humidity. For planting in areas hot and dry, provided additional watering when needed.
Requires regular and thorough watering. Well-draining, compost-enriched soil, with added compost beneath root level. Seasonal mulch, for keeping its root run cool and moist. Annual application of complete fertiliser. Watch out for powdery mildew.
Propagate from early spring division.

The Silver speedwell produces terminal racemes of blue flowers during summer and its foliage is characteristically silvery-grey.
V. spicata (45cm) with blue or pink spring- and summer flowers, borne on spikes. The leaves are slim and toothed. This perennial is quick growing, drought-resistant and hardy, ideal for coastal gardens.
