Vinca major Periwinkle

Planting position: Full sun or semi-shade. Suited to all growing regions, provided additional watering for drier areas. Spacing of 50cm.
Requires regular watering. Compost-enriched soil. Thorough mulching. Weekly applications of liquid fertiliser during spring and summer. Pruning when necessary. Watch out for rust.
Propagate from autumn cuttings stem cuttings.

This perennial has shiny, round leaves on its long, trailing stems and spring flowers of pale blue.
‘Elegantissima’ with its foliage blotched with ivory-white.
‘Maculata’ has soft yellow, central blotching on its leaves.
V. minor (10 x 60cm) is compact with small blue flowers and shiny, dark green leaves.
V. minor ‘Argenteo variegata’ with its leaves variegated in silver, and flowers pale blue.
V. minor ‘Atropurpurea’ has purple flowers.
V. minor ‘Gertrude Jeckyll’ has crisp white flowers and deep green foliage.
