TOOL-NET

There are a huge selection of tools out there to help DIY enthusiasts and professional tradesmen alike. It is important to select the right tool for the right job, as misusing tools, or using the incorrect tool is both dangerous and unlikely to get the job done correctly.

Gardening Equipment

Some of the most popular types of power tool on the market fall into this category, including chainsaws, leaf blowers and lawnmowers. Anyone with a large garden will most likely have a reasonable assortment of gardening equipment or, quite possibly, a gardener with a large selection of gardening equipment.

Angle Grinder

Angle grinders are used for slicing through materials such as metal, wood and carbide. They are arguably the most dangerous of all power tools. It is important that the safety guard should be in place whenever one uses an angle grinder because the rotating blade has tremendous potential to cut flesh. Not only this, but certain materials may send up sparks or detritus which can be dangerous to the user. One man famous for slicing through the detritus with his angle grinder is the so-called Angle Grinder Man, a self-styled modern day superhero who has attacked wheel clamps and speed cameras in his time. His idea of power tool accessories (blue lycra suit and cape) is a little different from the norm, but looks set to catch on - Captain Gatso is on the case!

Biscuit Joiner

The biscuit joiner is used to fix two parts of wood together by cutting crescent shaped holes in the two pieces of wood to be stuck together, into which a 'biscuit' of glue-covered wood is inserted, thus fixing the joint. The type of power tool spares you may need with a biscuit joiner include new blades and glue refills. Because of the large amounts of energy needed to power a biscuit joiner, it is not a cordless power tool.

Planer

There are a variety of planers available, ranging from industrial thicknessers to the much smaller power planer. The purpose of a planer is to trim a piece of wood to a desired size. Some huge industrial models exist which have induction motors to deal with the large workload, although you are unlikely to see one of these outside a large, professional workshop or factory.
